2021 In Review: Medchart Blazing Trails in Health Tech with Consumer-Mediated Data Exchange

This was a pivotal year for Medchart, standing at the epicenter of consumer-mediated data exchange with tens of thousands of trusted data connections and a simple-to-use API set. As I indicated in one of my recent Forbes columns, healthcare is realizing a digital transformation. From wearables that help patients track fitness to apps that help them share health data, many forces are contributing to the rising demand for digital health companies to create frictionless collaboration between patients and other industry stakeholders. Medchart delivers consent and trust to ease worries for patients and businesses beyond care. Our approach took off, and we have several milestones to show this traction.

Significant VC support

We announced exciting news about our seed and Series A funding which we’re using to accelerate product innovation and hire new talent to meet the widespread demand for businesses to get patient-authorized health information.

Expanded customer service team

Medchart enhanced our empowered team Model with the formation of the Fulfillment Teams. These cross-functional squads consist of Customer Experience, Customer Support and Data Delivery Specialists who serve our accounts with product knowledge and a deep understanding of customers’ business needs.

Industry Honors

Medchart earned 8th place on the prestigious 2021 Narwhal List in the Computer Technology category. This list spotlights Canada’s leading private tech companies by their financial velocity and is meant to predict the industry’s future unicorns.

No company can thrive without an inclusive, motivating culture. For the second year in a row, Medchart was certified as a Great Place to Work® in Canada. We also earned the Great Place to Work award in specialized categories for Healthcare and Today’s Youth. I am so proud of our tremendously creative and energetic people who work diligently to advance our vision. Our team goes above and beyond to maintain ongoing dedication to the employee experience.

Not long after we celebrated these accolades, Medchart earned the DirectTrust Interoperability Hero Award for our efforts in championing the consumer-mediated exchange model to transform the interoperability process into one that’s more efficient, manageable, and cost-effective. With tens of thousands of trusted data connections and a simple-to-use API set, Medchart’s platform enables any business to digitally retrieve patient-authorized health data quickly and securely.

Exciting new partnership

Medchart codified our partnership with Focus DMG. Together, we continue to help thousands of law firms grow their practices by increasing their process efficacy and fluidity to access and use patient-authorized health data.

Giving back

Starting Dec. 5, I and others here embarked on a 27-leg, 553 mile running and hiking course to raise money for The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF). The team plans to complete this fundraiser by mid 2022. This is part of Medchart’s ongoing corporate social responsibility, a significant aspect of our culture, which include food drives, support for domestic abuse shelters in the community, and DEI initiatives in the workplace. Just today, I got in my 20 miles on Bruce Trail.

The healthcare industry is entering into an era where the balance of power between companies and consumers is shifting. The 21st Century Cures Act mandates that consumers have access to and control of their own data. Organizations that embrace this shift and support it will be in a much better position than those that don’t. From this, we see a future of transparency between consumers and healthcare providers, and an open system where the only thing separating consumers from their health data is their authorization.

Medchart is blazing this trail in health tech with connections to more than 65,000 health organizations across North America. We're on a mission to impact millions of people by unlocking access to their health data and making it accessible to the apps they use in their daily lives. If you’d like to be part of the health tech transformation, check out our open positions.

Wishing you all a joyous holiday season, and much health and success in 2022.
